BAYLIS United have been voted by their fellow member Clubs as the Team of the Month for December and January.

The team, playing in only their second-ever season in the East Berkshire League, has enjoyed a terrific Christmas and New Year period which featured a 4-3 win against Premier Division leaders, Britwell, in the League Cup.

Since the beginning of December, Baylis have managed five wins from seven matches in all competitions, scoring an impressive 23 goals.

Baylis Chairman and Manager, Haseeb Ishaq, said: “Winning Team of the Month was massive for us as a Club, to be honest with you.

“We know how good we are, but we just haven’t been consistent and lacking a lot in togetherness.

“I think we’re finally coming away from that. We’re starting to gain that little bit of consistency and getting a good squad together, having the same faces available regularly, cutting out injuries and getting minutes under the boys’ belts.

“We’re getting a little bit more used to the levels [of performance that is needed]. A lot of us are inexperienced and some of our players have never played 11-a-side football. We’re trying to change the culture of the boys from five-a-side into 11-a-side.”

Ishaq continued: “We’re getting there now and winning Team of the Month just shows it. It gives us that little bit of recognition for the boys to hopefully push on.

“Our season has gone okay so far, it has been a little bit up-and-down but, this is only our second-ever season.

“We’re gaining that little bit of consistency now, so it’s about getting as many points as we can and winning as many games as we can, and a big push for the end of the season.

“Hopefully we can end on a good run and a good position in the League, and set ourselves up for a big season next year.

“We are building on the foundations here and I feel we’re doing a good job of that, so let’s keep on going.”

Baylis United return to action in Division One with a trip to Frontline Reserves this Saturday (1pm). Baylis lost the reverse fixture 3-0 on the opening day of the season back in September.
