Chalvey Sports Reserves caused the first shock in the East Berkshire League Premier Division this season after winning 4-2 at Britwell on Saturday.
Sports Secretary, Craig Howard, said the team was looking to do itself proud after securing promotion from Division One last year, and the come-from-behind win at the home of the defending champions represents a very a positive start.
It is the first time Britwell has lost in the league at the Chicken Ranch since a final day defeat to Singh Sabha in June 2021 cost them the Premier Division title that year.
Howard commented in pre-season: “Chalvey Sports Reserves are going to be in what we believe will be a tough but positive year.
“Obviously we’re delighted and over the moon to have been promoted into the Premier Division this season but it’s a very tough division. We’re a team that had some mixed results last year, we played well and had some very good results, but it’s a step up to go into the Premier Division. We’re looking forward to it and excited.
“There will not be too many changes to the team. We’ve lost a couple of players to the first team so competition for places will be strong, which is a positive thing.
“We’re just hoping that we can put some good performances in and do ourselves proud. I think, in all honesty, we’re just hoping to survive, maybe mid-table, and pick up some points when we can. The priority is to do ourselves proud but we’re looking forward to it.”

Old Windsor moved to the top of the table following their 7-2 home win against new side, Surrey Rangers. Mark Beale was the star on show for The Os with a hat-trick inside the first 20 minutes. There were further goals from Lewis Corney and Sean Blandford plus a late brace from Jude Van Spall. Andrew Juett hit the back of the next twice for Rangers but there chances would have been dealt a blow when James Fitch was dismissed.
In the pick of the action this Saturday (2pm KOs), defending champions Britwell welcome arch rivals Old Windsor to the Chicken Ranch, both KS Gryf and Southcote begin their season with a meeting at The Polish Club, and Hype Train get under way with a trip to Iver Heath. Chalvey Sports bid to build on the win against Britwell when hosting Frontline.
