Eton Wick F.C caused a huge upset when beating Caversham United on penalties in the Quarter Finals of the Presidents Cup competition on Saturday.

Caversham would have gone into the match as favourites having beaten Eton in the league earlier in the season however, The Wick showed an incredible fighting spirit to level the scores in the third minute of time added on at the end of the game, and then hold their nerves best to win the ensuing shoot-out.

In a contender for East Berkshire League Game of the Season, Eton took the lead when Oliver Brotherston found a route to goal on the half-hour mark. The Billygoats equalised through the returning Bevan Van Wyk two minutes before the break.

Caversham got their noses in front when Daniel Amponsah hit the back of the net with six minutes remaining, and at that point the home team must have believed they were heading into the Semi Finals of the competition.

Eton never game up however, and their supporters were jubilant when Brotherston netted the equalising goal in the 93rd minute to take the Quarter Finals match to a penalty shoot-out.

The Wick hero in the ensuing penalty shoot-out was goalkeeper Jake Plant, who saved three Caversham spot-kicks to cap a man-of-the-match performance which also included some fine saves in normal time.

Eton Wick will now meet Presidents Cup holders, Old Windsor Reserves, in the Semi Finals of the competition on Saturday 22nd February. The Wick will again start as the underdogs having twice been beaten by Old Windsor in the league already this season.

Slough Heating Laurencians Reserves had a more straightforward progress into the Semi Finals after beating Bracknell Aces 9-2.

The Lauries have been in red-hot form since the restart to the season, winning in all three matches this January and scoring a whopping 25 goals in the process.

Michael Sanderson was the chief destroyer in the cup tie with a hat-trick, whilst Sherif Elghoneimi twice hit the back of the net. The other goals for Slough Heating came from Alfie Clark, Craig Kelly, Joshua Kurton and substitute Carl Justice.

Alfie Hills scored either side of the break for Bracknell, but The Aces will now have to put this defeat behind them quickly and re-focus on maintaining their mid-table respectability in the league.

Slough Heating will meet Barton Rovers in the Semi Finals of the Presidents Cup competition on Saturday 15th February. The two sides are yet to meet in the league this season.

Britwell F.C roared into the Quarter Finals of the Ascot & Fielden District Charity Cup competition with a 6-2 victory over higher-league Prestwood on Saturday.

Prestwood were the last team to beat Britwell in a competitive match, winning 3-1 in the Hellenic League Division Two East last April.

The Slough-based side are a different animal this season however, with ambitions to win a clean sweep of silverware, and they gained some manner of revenge with this success at The Chicken Ranch.

Bryan Taylor is the leading goals scorer in the Premier Division so far this season, and he was the star on show again with a hat-trick in the cup tie, with Cheyenne Crips and Thomas O’Reilly also on target.

Old Windsor cruised into the last eight of the competition thanks to an 8-0 success against Pundit F.C at the George Pitcher Memorial Ground in Burnham.

Joseph Allen was the destroyer-in-chief for The Os with a hat-trick, whilst Daniel Nicolaev scored either side of the break. The other goals came from substitute James Buckley and James Walton.

F.C. Beaconsfield suffered defeat at the hands of K.S. Gryf in the Premier Division last weekend, but turned their fortunes around on Saturday to win 3-1 and advance into the Quarter Finals. Emmanuel Adjei scored the consolation goal for Gryf at Wooburn Green Lane Field.
