Old Windsor and Caversham United move to the top of the Premier Division and Division One tables

PICTURE: Old Windsor have started the new season on fire, named the Team of the Month for September and now a sixth successive win moves them to the top of the Premier Division table.

There is new leaders in the East Berkshire League Premier Division and Division One after both Old Windsor and Caversham United climbed to the top of their respective tables on Saturday.

Old Windsor overcame a resilient Chalvey Sports team to record a sixth successive win in the top flight and move above title rivals Britwell into first place.

Caversham United thrashed bottom side Barton Rovers to become the fourth team this season that has stood at the top of the pile in a competitive Division One.

Chalvey Sports might be in the relegation zone in the Premier Division but some of their performances so far this season warrant more points than the team has managed to secure, and they held the defending champions until the final 10 minutes of the match at Old Windsor Recreation Ground.

The Os finally got a breakthrough goal from Josh O’Reilly in the 81st minute, before substitute Jake Bartlett made sure of the points with a second goal in the final minute of the game.

FC Baylis United managed a first away win in the league this season at the fifth attempt when beating AFC Reading 4-1 at Berkshire County Sports Club. Reading are now five games without a victory in the Premier Division, their last was recorded at Pundit back in September.

A goal from Raheem Razaq on 55 minutes sparked Baylis into life, but the star of the show was Nadir Shafi who came on as a substitute to score a hat-trick inside the last half-hour of the game.

Caversham United took advantage of the fact that their promotion rivals in Division One were in cup competition action last weekend to beat Barton Rovers 8-1 and storm to the top of the table.

Bevan Van Wyk was the destroyer-in-chief with a first-half hat-trick for The Billy Goats at The Atrium. Ross Blakemore scored either side of the break, and substitute Daniel Amponsah bagged a brace inside the final 12 minutes of the match. There was also a goal on the hour mark from Lucas Shaffner.

The consolation effort for Barton Rovers came from Jack McEwn but his side are still looking for their first points since joining the E.B.F.L in the summer.
