Showcase Match club profile: Chalvey Sports Football Club - who are The Stabmonks?

PICTURE: Chalvey Sports Football Club is 139 years old and won league honours in both the Hellenic League and the East Berkshire League since 1997. The Club has also won five auxiliary Cup competitions, most recently the Ascot & Fielden District Cup in 2004.

Chalvey Sports Football Club was founded in 1885. The Football Club joined the Great Western Combination in 1954 and won Division One at the first attempt, earning promotion to the Premier Division.

The Club left the league at the end of the 1958-59 season, subsequently playing in the Slough & District League. During their time in the league, Chalvey Sports won both the Maidenhead Norfolkian Senior Cup and the Slough Town Premier Cup.

In 1992, the Slough & District League merged into the East Berkshire Football League with Chalvey placed in Division One. The Club were Division One champions in the 1992-93 season and were promoted to the Premier Division. Chalvey Sports were Premier Division champions in the 1996-97 campaign and won the League Cup competition in 2013.

The Football Club transferred to the Hellenic Football League in 2016 and were placed in Division Two East. After winning the division in the 2016-2017 and 2017-2018 seasons, the Club was promoted to Division One East.

Chalvey Sports were transferred to the Combined Counties Football League at the end of the 2020-21 campaign and finished bottom in Division One.

The Club were relegated to the Premier Division of the Thames Valley Premier League however, resigned from the league midway through the following season.

The Chalvey Sports first team reformed with a much younger squad and joined the Hellenic League at Division Two East level for the 2023-24 season. It was a first attempt at men’s football for many of the squad members and the campaign was not great.

Chalvey Sports returned to the East Berkshire League at Premier Division level this season. The team is currently in 10th position in the table with two wins and five defeats in seven matches. The side has beaten F.C Beaconsfield and A.F.C Reading in the Premier Division so far this season.

Alfie O’Connor could be the main danger for Chalvey Sports in the Showcase Match having scored six goals in seven appearances - three from the penalty spot. Their opponents will need to watch out for James Hepburn too, he has scored twice in six matches in the campaign.
