Britwell F.C won the battle of the divisional leaders to advance into the Quarter Finals of the East Berkshire League Cup competition on Saturday.
The pick of the ties in the Second Round saw Britwell, the unbeaten leaders of the Premier Division, travel to F.C. Bracknell, an impressive young team that currently set the pace in Division One despite it being their debut season.
The Slough-based team have ambitions to make it a clean sweep in all competitions this season and showed no signs of relenting in a 5-0 success at Great Hollands.
Bracknell deserve credit for keeping out their higher-league opponents in the first 45 minutes with the opening period ending goalless, but the visitors stepped up a gear in the second half to score five times without reply.
The Britwell goals came from Jack Alder, Alfie Keeler, Daniel Molloy, Bryan Taylor (the leading goals scorer in the Premier Division) and substitute Conor Remsbury-Kelly.
Old Windsor created some history when winning the League Cup competition last season, the first time in more than 25 years that the Final was played in the heart of Slough, and a part of an historic treble for the team which also included the Premier Division title and the Slough Town Premier Cup.
The Os booked their place in the last eight of the League Cup with a 4-1 win against Sandhurst F.C. Royals at the Old Windsor Recreation Ground.
Both Joseph Allen and Rashid Christian-Fares twice hit the back of the net for the winning side, with Liam Quinn registering the response for Sandhurst.
The Second Round tie was not without some controversy however, as Joe Richards of Old Windsor was dismissed for a second bookable offence, and Royals’ Will Ridgers shown a straight red card in the game.
F.C. Baylis United avoided a potential banana skin with a 4-1 victory over lower-league Prospect F.C at the Iver Heath Recreation Ground.
The Second Round tie was goalless until Haris Farooq gave Baylis the lead five minutes into the second half. The Premier Division outfit further extended their advantage with goals from Usman Javid, substitute Nadir Shafi, and Ibrahim Sajid.
Prospect F.C are in a good run of form in Division One, three consecutive league wins, and will take more positives from the game than the consolation goal from their player-manager Dawid Jarzebowski.
Langley F.C. Reserves set a new record for Biggest Win of the Season so far when thrashing Barton Rovers 13-0 at Theale Green School. The tie was always going to be a tough ask for Barton, who currently prop up the Division One table, but their chances were not helped when Connor Cox was dismissed for a second bookable offence.
Langley are fighting for a top-three finish in the Premier Division this year and would have been long odds-on favourites to progress into the Quarter Finals stage of the League Cup. The Merrymakers boasting nine different goals scorers in the rout, including Sam Manton and substitute Tai Maddox who both bagged a brace.
There were further goals from Ross McGarvie, Chance Meyer-White, Anis Ouandlous and Harry Smith. The substitutes also played their part in the success with Pardeep Khanke, Owen McCarthy and Joe Rose all coming off the bench to add to the team’s tally.
